Welcome to the Land of Fire and Ice! Earl & I flew into Keyflavík Airport outside Iceland's capital of Reykjavík. Our first site was the Seltún Geothermal Field. A boardwalk runs through this steaming, bubbling, boiling, other-worldly landscape. It's really neat. Many hot springs smell of sulphur, but this one beats them ALL! The sulphuric acid was SO stinky and SO acrid--yuck! Icelanders don't need to worry about me because if I had any covid in my lungs when I arrived, that place burned it all out.

Our Viking Hotel in the town of Hafnarfjörður is decorated with heavy wood furniture and carvings and Vikings and it's kinda cheesy and I like it. We have a view of Faxaflói Bay from our window.

Today is Icelandic National Day, so we celebrated with the locals. Some businesses set out toys like jump ropes for children to play with. The little celebrations within blocks of each other included bouncy houses, games, singers, an excellent high school band, and vendors selling hot dogs (yum!), cotton candy, balloons, national flags, and GIANT ring pops. Families were out, kids were playing, and a good time was had by all.

To end my day (after being awake for most of the last 34 hours...I'm trying to stay up in order to get on local time ASAP), I enjoyed a soak in the hotel's tiny, secreted "hot pot," which, as throughout all of Iceland, is filled with naturally heated water...aaahhh!

Off to bed even though it is still 100% light outside!
